On a road trip from Oregon to Denver, Colorado, we stopped at Holiday Inn Express & Suites Grand Junction. The Grand Junction hotel was our second Holiday Inn Express hotel and third IHG hotel on our vacation. Read on for the inside scoop of my Holiday Inn Express & Suites Grand Junction hotel review.

Located off Interstate 70, this Holiday Inn Express is 15 miles from Colorado National Monument. Our final destination was a Denver, Colorado hotel, so this stop was a one-night stay.

Reservations were easy as I called direct to the Grand Junction hotel from the road. As IHG members, I booked the least expensive hotel room and received a complimentary upgrade. We arrived at the hotel at sunset and were greeted with a warm welcome and complimentary snack at reception. (Sorry, you’ll have to pay for your snack unless you are an IHG member – membership is free.)

We checked into room #312 of the four-story hotel. I always recommend booking the top floor in these types of 2-star hotels as no one is above you from a soundproofing perspective. We were briefly reminded of my mistake as two sets of toddler and teen footsteps “danced” above our hotel room for a couple of hours before they retired to bed.

Holiday Inn Express & Suites room types

As mentioned, I had booked a double queen standard room and was upgraded to a king suite with sofa bed. The IHG rewards membership is free and entitles you to 1 level upgrade, if available. If you travel as often as we do, some hotel reward programs make sense to join.

Our king suite offered a large desk with table lamp, sofa bed and 42″ flat screen tv in the living area. The 375 square foot suite included a microwave and minifridge.

The king bed was comfortable with clean white bedding and both firm and soft pillows. The shower/tub bathroom combination included one sink. Dove bath amenities were eco-friendly containers mounted inside the shower. A separate closet contained and iron and ironing board.

Holiday Inn Express breakfast

The Holiday Inn Express breakfast is complimentary. Our breakfast included scrambled eggs, biscuits and sausage gravy, cinnamon rolls, muffins, bagels with cream cheese and a pancake machine. I’m an Express Breakfast grab and go yogurt type of diner. My husband liked the biscuits and gravy.

Breakfast hours are 6:30 – 9:30 a.m. Monday through Friday and 7:00-10:00 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Evening dining choices off property included Mi Mexico restaurant with good margaritas right next door.

The hotel features an indoor pool and hot tub that will satisfy those traveling with children. On our visit, pool hours were 6 a.m. – 11 p.m.

Unidentified child swims underwater in the hotel's indoor swimming pool. His older brother sits in the hot tub at the Grand Junction hotel.

Even number rooms overlook the city of Grand Junction and are perfect for watching the sun rise over Grand Mesa.  Odd number rooms look out to the Colorado National Monument and are great for watching the beautiful Colorado orange sunsets.

Hotel rates at the website range from $129-$399 depending on room type and time of year. You can compare rates over at Booking.com. This hotel does not allow pets unless a service animal. Some Holiday Inn Express hotels do allow pets, so check the website. There is no charge for parking.
