Home to much-talked-about spots like Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks, southwestern Utah draws outdoor enthusiasts from around the world. Days exploring here are the norm and are best followed with a good night’s sleep at hotels like The Advenire.
Located in downtown St. George, about an hour from Zion National Park, The Advenire, an Autograph Collection Hotel, is the only full-service boutique hotel in the Greater Zion area. The hotel lobby sets the tone for stay here. With a style staff describe as ‘pioneer chic,’ it’s easy to get distracted taking in the lobby design while checking-in. Along with a Rammed Earth Wall crafted from soil and sediment of St. George and the Greater Zion area, modern art, striking light fixtures, and whimsical seating options know how to grab your attention and make you anticipate your guest room possibilities.
The Advenire features 60 guest rooms; I stayed in a King Balcony room on the third floor. The room’s design and color palette gave it a bright and airy feel. Light wood floors, mostly white walls, and light colored furnishings combined to create a clean look. During the day, a nice amount of natural light flooded the room, thanks to a combination of windows and the door to the balcony that compromised about a third of the exterior wall. But when it was time to sleep, the curtains did a good job of keeping light out.
A built-in closet unit at the room’s entrance did double duty as a dresser and hid amenities including a safe, small refrigerator, and coffee maker. Electric tea kettles are not available for tea drinkers; hot water is available via room service.
The bathroom offered a single sink vanity with plenty of room for two people to store cosmetics and toiletries. There was a spacious walk-in shower that boasted a wand and rainfall shower head. The toilet had its own separate space behind a door, allowing two people to use the space at the same time and still maintain some privacy. Toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, are unfortunately still provided in single-use, disposable plastic bottles.
Partially due to its location, the hotel can be noisy. If you’re a light sleeper, I’d recommend avoiding a room that overlooks West St. George Boulevard (the main road through town) and instead request a room on the fourth (top) floor, at the end of the hallway, furthest from the elevators.
Onsite restaurant, wood.ash.rye, is open daily for breakfast, brunch, and dinner. Breakfast menu items range from avocado toast, to biscuits and gravy, to a Croque Madame. Dinner options include offerings the likes of ground steak sliders, duck tacos, and roasted chicken. The bar mixes up cocktails with local spirits whenever possible. Most of the restaurant’s menu is also available via room service.
The rooftop terrace, complete with fire pit and hot tub, is a popular spot to end a busy day of hiking in and around nearby popular parks. The hotel is an hour or less drive to Zion National Park, Snow Canyon State Park, and the Tuacahn Center for the Arts. Though the hotel can assist in booking independent tour guides, there is no concierge at the hotel to answer day to day questions.
The Advenire is about 15 miles, or a 25-minute drive from the St. George Regional Airport. Plan on a bit longer than two hours to make the drive to Harry Reid International Airport, near Las Vegas.
Rates for a King Balcony room start at $279 during peak season, Wi-Fi included. Housekeeping is offered by request only. You can check out Booking.com or your favorite hotel booking site and see if you can get a better rate.
Valet parking only, for an additional fee. Three charging stations are available for guests arriving in electric vehicles. Bicyclists will appreciate The Advenire’s unique bike valet; bike service and cleaning is available. Bike rentals can also be arranged. Pet-friendly rooms are available.
