While the study also examined other forms of technology like smartphones and the internet, these tools did not exhibit the same positive effects on creativity. This suggests that video games are significantly more effective at stimulating our imaginative capabilities compared to other technological platforms.

Games that guide players through structured levels with singular solutions may help with problem-solving but do not foster broader creativity. Instead, games should offer open-ended experiences that promote exploration and customization. The most inspiring games often allow players to create their own levels or entirely customize their characters.

A prime example of a creativity-driven game is Minecraft. Without a predetermined objective, players can embark on their own adventures. The game’s highlight is its building feature, which enables players to design and construct elaborate structures across a virtually limitless landscape. This freedom has led to the recreation of entire cities and the creation of personal fantasy worlds by various players.

Other games like LittleBigPlanet, Roblox, The Sims, and Garry’s Mod also focus on world-building and level creation. These titles are typically classified as sandbox games, encouraging players to experiment and construct freely.
