Boston Back Bay skyline

Located in Boston’s Back Bay, the Westin Copley Place puts you in the middle of one of the city’s most popular neighborhoods and near many of the top attractions. The affluent neighborhood is a shopping and dining destination, Newbury Street is well-known for its boutiques and galleries, and is also home to historic landmarks and brick townhouses. It’s the Boston you often see in movies and on television.

The Westin Copley Place is a popular hotel for conferences and conventions and is the reason I stayed there. We arrived around noon, in the middle of the check-out rush, and took advantage of our Marriott Bonvoy status (formerly the SPG loyalty program) in hopping in a shorter line. While we didn’t expect our room to be ready yet, we wanted to get checked in and stow our bags, then take advantage of our time to explore the neighborhood.

Room at Westin Copley Place

Thanks to our loyalty status, we were able to check into our upgraded room right away, a King room on a higher floor with a city view. Sweet!

The room was large, by hotel standards, with room for sectional with lounger in front of the window. I love a room with lots of natural light, and the wall of mirrors made the large room appear even more spacious.

The decor was muted earth tones – beige, brown, and green – creating a peaceful space for work and sleep. I appreciated the throw that was on the lounger, finding it comfy to curl up there and read a book or look out at the city at night. A surprising bonus was that the windows opened, allowing a little fresh air into the room. Westin’s signature Heavenly Beds are always comfortable.

The workspace was a round table that could also double for other purposes. Since it was next to the window it had lots of natural lighting, which always help make the room a more pleasant place to work in. Plug-ins were conveniently located near the table. It was fine for my purposes, but if you need a lot of room to spread out, you may find it less convenient than a traditional desk. Wi-fi is free for Bonvoy members, often part of the negotiated room rate for conference attendees, or fee-based.

A coffee maker and mini-fridge were beneath the cabinets, and since it was quite warm when we were in Boston, we stocked up the fridge with beverages. Water is provided in the room complimentary for Bonvoy members, otherwise for a fee. I’d suggest picking up some favorites in a nearby.

bathroom westin copley place

While not large, the bathroom was well laid out with a large shower stall, single-sink vanity, and lighted makeup mirror. The expected bathroom amenities were provided, along with robes. It was a little crowded for two people getting ready at the same time but fine for a solo user.

We tried to of the onsite restaurants during our stay. The Coffee House has grab-and-go items available, including pastries and breakfast sandwiches. It was our first stop for our second cup (the first was in the room) of coffee. We had lunch at Bar 10, located just off the lobby, with a view of the Boston Public Library. It has a fairly diverse bar menu.

The Huntington offers a more substantial breakfast and brunch, along with a view of Back Bay. For lunch and dinner, Fogo de Chao Brazilian Steakhouse offers traditional churrascaria dinners. While the latter is a chain, we’ve always enjoyed it, especially when with a group of friends.

A salon and day spa, along with a workout facility, is also available. We didn’t have time to check out either.

The hotel is adjacent to Copley Place and the Prudential Center. Both have shopping, dining, and entertainment venues and can be reached via a sky bridge from the hotel to Copley Place and then another sky bridge to the Prudential Center. This is a great feature in inclement weather as you won’t need to go outside.

Nearby attractions of Back Bay include the Boston Public Library, Copley Square, Boston Public Gardens, shopping on Newbury Street, and the Theater District.

The Westin Copley Place is located at 10 Huntington Avenue, Boston Massachusetts. The hotel does not offer an airport shuttle; a taxi will run you about $40. Bus and subway will be considerably less but may be more difficult to manage depending on the size of your party and the amount of your baggage.

Room rates start at $275/night. Rooms can be difficult to find during conferences, conventions, and special events in the city. Book early to avoid sold out dates. You can book directly online with the hotel or you can make your reservation through Expedia or Travelocity.

Offsite parking is available for $45/day and valet for $60. Unless you absolutely must have a car, it’s more convenient and cheaper to rely on public transportation in the city and surrounding areas.

Disclosure: I was provided a complimentary stay at the Westin Copley Place as part of a conference package.
