A four-season destination in the Shenandoah Valley, the 6,000-acre, mountain-side property has loads of activities to suit all ages. These include skiing, golfing, mountain biking, water park, and relaxing in the spa.

Plus, the resort has a variety of spacious condo and hotel accommodations for sprawling families, groups, cozy couples, or singles. If you pick lodging on the mountain, you’ll be close to the ski area. In the valley, you are closest to the indoor/outdoor water park.

All through the resort, guests can often spot wildlife sauntering past. Take a walk on the many paths that wind through the property and you are almost guaranteed to see deer. 

A Resort with a 50 Year History

Massanutten Resort, Virginia started as a ski resort 50 years ago. In 1982 it became an independent time-share operation which it still is. But these days, you can also book units for short (or longer) stays. And choices range from spacious multi-bedroom condos with a full kitchen to single-room suites. Of the total 2,500 units, 200 are hotel rooms.

Furnishing are stylish and comfortable, granite kitchen counters gleam and amenities like fireplaces and decks enhance the seasonal experience.

Massanutten Resort, Virginia Has a Variety of Accommodations

Eagle Trace Townhouse condos are located in the woods on the mountain. Chose these and you’ll be close to the Mountain Greens Golf Course, Massanutten Fitness & Rec Club, the ski area, and a restaurant facility called Base Camp.

The townhouses come as either two separate one-bedroom condos, or they can be opened up to be a two-bedroom condo and accommodate up to 12 people. They have sleep sofas, kitchens, fireplaces, and decks. Some have whirlpool tubs and gas grills.

Living rooms are cozy and some have fireplaces.

A similar townhouse complex called The Summit is near the ski area and family adventure park. The townhomes can accommodate up to 12 people with four bedrooms, or they can be divided into separate, two-bedroom units. The two-bedroom style offers one bedroom with a king bed and a second bedroom with two twin beds. In addition, they have kitchens, two bathrooms, a whirlpool tub, and a fireplace. Some have decks and gas grills.

Villas and Studios are other Options

Another option is a Shenandoah Villa at Killy Court, right off the base of the ski area. These can accommodate between two to 10 people. They are more of a hotel style. Options include studios, one-bedrooms, one-bedroom with studio, and two bedrooms.

Studios have a sleep sofa, one bathroom, a full kitchen, and a fireplace. The one-bedrooms don’t have kitchens but can be combined with studios to give you more amenities. In addition, there are two-bedroom units that have one king bed, two queen beds, two sleep sofas, three bathrooms, a full kitchen, and a fireplace.

Some units have full, gleaming kitchens.

The single hotel rooms are located near the ski area, base camp, family adventure park, campfire grill, and fitness and recreation club. They can accommodate up to four people with either one king bed and one sleeper sofa or two queen beds.

Rooms are equipped with fridges, TVs, and microwave ovens. Plus there’s a sitting area and balcony.

Plenty of Activities at Massanutten Resort, Virginia for Everyone

People are drawn to Massanutten Resort, Virginia not only for the accommodation options but also for the activities.

You can dive into the indoor/outdoor water park, or pump adrenaline in the ski and adventure park area with zip lines, a pool, tubing, and go-karting. Golfers can choose between two 18-hole courses and play a regular round, or you can try your hand at fling golf.

An indoor/outdoor waterpark provides splashy fun for all ages.

Plus, there are shopping opportunities at various retail outlets throughout the property.

Adults will Love the Food

Culinary options at Massanutten Resort, Virginia range from farm-to-table dining to a campfire grill. At Base Camp, you can sit under umbrellas or out in the open on the ski lodge deck. Or you can check out the indoor area with a bar.

The menu includes braised duck, pork belly bulgogi, pizza, nachos, soups, salads, sandwiches, pasta, steaks, chimichangas, tacos, smoked braised beef shank, and grilled salmon. Desserts include a selection of cheesecakes, brownie sundae, and ice cream.

Braised duck is one of the culinary options.

At the water park, feasting at Splash’s Bar & Grill is a must. The resort’s newest restaurant features seafood from the East Coast such as oysters and fresh fish.

Creativity Goes into the Cocktails

In the Elevations cocktail lounge, on the second floor of the ski lodge, mixed drinks are creative and include a smoked Jalapeno pineapple margarita, Base Camp Bushwacker with Bailey’s and rum, and blue raspberry lemonade with rum and blue Curacao.

Weekly events in the lounge focus on pairing spirits with a custom menu. For example, the Whiskey Social includes three whiskeys paired with three tapas dishes.

Treats Tailored for the Kids

The Virginia BBQ & Pizza Co. features wood-smoked chicken, pork, and ribs, paired with traditional southern sides like collard greens, baked beans, and macaroni and cheese.

While at the water park, you can grab a bite at the Snack Shack, Sweetz, The Chill Grill, and Chill Grill Slideside.

Head to the Campfire Grill for pizza, chilli, chicken dumplings, burgers, and a variety of skillet meals.

Be Sure to Check Seasonal Availability

Massanutten Resort, Virginia is open year-round and, depending on the season, rates vary.

Hotel rates start at $120 per night for rooms that sleep up to four. Eagle Trace two-bedroom townhouses start at $220 per night. Summit two-bedroom luxury townhouses start at $200 per night while a four-bedroom starts at $365 per night. Two-bedroom Shenandoah Villas start at around $200 per night.  Dog-friendly lodging is available for a fee. You can also compare rates and make reservations at Expedia.

Note that due to the time-share style of operation, there are black-out periods for some units, especially during holidays such as Christmas. Activities are at various prices and can be booked online.
