Mali travel story from Djenne

We try to keep things interesting every month at Perceptive Travel online magazine, bringing readers the best narrative travel stories from around the globe, all from published book authors.

Don’t take my word for it though. Each year we rack up some new awards. We followed up two in February with another in March. Luke Armstrong won a Bronze in the Travel and Healing category of the Solas Best Travel Writing awards for his story Learning to Walk Fully in Thailand.

March Travel Stories

This month we’ve got four features on four continents from returning writers.

James Dorsey is back with another story from Africa, this time looking at the world’s largest mud structure, the four-story Djerbinger Mosque of Mali. See Dreaming of Djenné.

Guidebook writer David Nikel braves gale-force winds on Norway’s coastal ferry voyage in the depths of winter for a set of dazzling rewards from the Northern Lights and moonscapes. See Stormy Seas, Spectacular Skies on Norway’s Hurtigruten Cruise.

Cladia Flisi goes looking for a more authentic part of Saigon, Vietnam. When she hires a local guide to get into a true locals’ section of the city, she ends up getting lost in the back alleys of a neighborhood where few foreigners tread. See Not the Usual Tour of HCMC: Medicines, Markets, and Floating Temples.

Perceptive Travel story from St. Augustine

If winter has you down and you want to daydream about a warmer place, see my story on St. Augustine, Florida, where centuries of battles have given way to a craft distillery and chocolate shops. Check out America’s Longest Stretch of History in St. Augustine, Florida.

We also have a new set of book reviews from William Caverlee, this time two narrative books about world travel and a Lonely Planet round-up of great train journeys around the world.

Need Some New Shades?

Every month, one lucky Perceptive Travel subscribers wins a new travel gear item. That means you’ve got 12 chances a year to score if you’re on the insiders list.

The odds are so good that sometimes a reader will score twice. Sue G. from California came out of the randomizer to win in 2014. In February she did it again and will be getting a nice Lifesaver Liberty water purifier bottle worth $99. Now she can keep a few pounds of plastic out of the Earth’s streams and oceans on her future travels.

Ombraz sunglasses good for travelers

This month we’re giving away some innovative armless sunglasses from Ombraz. These are great for travelers since they pack down flat and are easy to stuff in any bag. They’re quality glasses though, available with several different frames and lenses, retailing for $140 direct.

All you have to do is become a part of our e-mail issue update community. Then watch for the entry instructions near the beginning of each month. If this month’s blast has already gone out, you can also follow Perceptive Travel on Facebook and pay close attention to the feed for gear giveaway instructions.
