Bath, a UNESCO World Heritage city located in southwest England, is just two hours from London. Originally founded as a spa destination for wealthy Romans, today, visitors still do as the Romans did. In addition to the thermal waters, you’ll find world-class restaurants to enjoy, architecture, and history.
Whether you are visiting Bath for business or pleasure, finding an affordable luxury hotel in the historic center can be a challenge. Look no further than the perfectly located 4-star, Apex City of Bath Hotel.
The Roman baths, Bath Abbey, Royal Crescent, and other tourist attractions are all just a short walk from the hotel. If you have travel connections through Bath, the train and bus station are within a ten-minute walk on flat surfaces. And, fine dining, shopping, and entertainment options are right at your doorstep.
The Apex City of Bath Hotel is part of the Apex group of family-owned, luxury hotels throughout the United Kingdom. Frequent visitors can join the Apex Insiders program for perks like 10% off stays, upgrades when available, late check-out, and more.
Green Initiatives at Apex City of Bath Hotel
Apex Bath City Center has received silver recognition in Green Tourism’s three-tier system, bronze, silver, and gold. Green Tourism is a globally recognized program with clear steps to move a business towards functioning in cleaner more environmentally friendly ways, with actionable checklists. Some impressive initiatives include the reduction of single-use plastics. The company recycles sixty percent of its waste including recycling uniforms and cooking oil into valuable biodiesel. Apex also sources 100% of its energy from Scottish wind farms and aims to install LED lighting across all hotels by 2024.
Bedrooms at the Apex City of Bath
The Apex has 177 comfortable and modern rooms with Scandinavian-inspired furnishings. The smallest room is the City Room which is a generous 258 square feet or 24 square meters. In my opinion, space is a luxury.
I stayed in a City Double Room with a balcony. The cozy king-size bed was dressed in several layers so it was possible to add or subtract layers as needed. It was chilly at night so the down comforter was welcome.
Other welcome touches were the lavender pillow spray, a cozy bathrobe with slippers, Nespresso coffee maker, and organic bath products. Standard extras include Wifi, a flat screen, a long built-in credenza that can double as a dressing table, a mini fridge, and a kettle for tea. Still and sparkling water are complimentary as well.
All bathrooms have a rainfall shower, a large soaking tub, and no-mist mirrors for shaving.
The hotel and all rooms are fully wheelchair accessible. Note double means it’s a room for two people. It is not referring to the size of the mattress.
Dining at the Apex City of Bath
The Apex has onsite dining in their lovely Orange Artichoke Restaurant serving breakfast, a kid’s menu option, lunch (Sundays only), and afternoon tea. The full breakfast is prepared fresh and was delicious. I tried the vegetarian breakfast one morning which came with two eggs (prepared to order), baked beans, portobello mushroom, potatoes, vegetarian sausage, spinach, and grilled tomato. I also tried the Eggs Benedict. Everything is prepared as it is ordered so the poached eggs were pefect.
As part of the hotel’s green initiative, they serve only free-range eggs, fair trade coffee, and sugar, and a minimum of twenty-five percent of all food products served at the Apex are sourced locally.
Alfresco dining is available when weather permits or enjoy a cocktail in the afternoon from the lobby bar.
Wellness Amenities at the Apex
If you like to swim you’ll love the gorgeous indoor heated pool at the Apex. Just be sure you book your pool time in advance as that is the only way to gain pool access. There’s also a well-equipped gym with weights, a treadmill, and a stationary bike. The hotel also offers spa and wellness packages.
For Business Travelers
The Apex City of Bath Hotel is the first purpose-built hotel in the collection and has the most conference space in the city. With the capacity to hold up to 400 people in one room, there are a number of smaller and more intimate business suites available. Why not combine business with pleasure in one of Europe’s top spa destinations?
No matter your reason for traveling to Bath, the Apex City of Bath Hotel is a perfect location wrapped in a luxurious package.
Things to Note
Rooms rates vary by season and type of room but generally start at £150 pounds per night. Be sure to check out the many online specials and weekend packages. You can also compare online rates at Booking.com, Hotels. com or Expedia. Rooms with a balcony do not overlook the historic area. Note that there is no onsite parking at the hotel.
