Winter ski bums and outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the affordably-priced Best Western Alpenglo Lodge in Winter Park, Colorado. While not a Swiss chalet, the Winter Park hotel is minutes from Winter Park ski resort. Conveniently located in the mountain town of Winter Park, Colorado, we found this hotel to be clean and pet-friendly.
The 2-star, 3-story Best Western hotel is located along Route 40 in Colorado. Built around 2013, the 58 room hotel has an elevator and offers free parking. Like BW ones we’ve experienced before, this is a ski-friendly hotel near the mountains, Best Western Alpenglo Lodge in Winter Park is not a Best Western Plus hotel, but we were visiting off-season and found the rates to be affordable.
This was our third hotel stay in our 6 night road trip from Oregon to Colorado, via Jackson, Wyoming. As with all Best Western hotels, the lobby was clean and the staff were friendly. One employee was very helpful when I asked for local dining options. He recommended the Smoke House BBQ directly across the street from the Best Western, as well as Tabernash Tavern.
We opted for the Smoke House for its easy access and good smells wafting out of the Winter Park restaurant.
We didn’t have our Labrador Retriever with us on this road trip. However, we did notice that this Winter Park Best Western hotel was pet-friendly.
Our deluxe king room, #206, was a small, but clean hotel room. Room choices offered king beds or two queen beds. While the furniture was clean and comfortable, we felt some of the furniture was too big for the size of the hotel room.
We used the mini fridge, located in the hotel room closet. Additionally, there was a small microwave oven in the dresser, across from our king bed. A Mr. Coffee machine, desk and chair were also in the room. Not shown is the bathroom with a tub/shower combination.
I’ve previously mentioned my complaint of single-use shampoo and conditioner bottles in many Best Western hotel reviews. I’ve been told repeatedly that all of these independently-owned hotels are working on more eco-friendly, wall-mounted bath product containers.
Our room, using our Best Western rewards discount, rented for $142.29, not including tax. Off season rates for this room, if you were not a BW Rewards member, would have been $153, not including tax. Peak season summer and winter rates are higher. Check the website for current pricing and specials. You can also compare rates at Hotels.com or your favorite hotel booking site.
Breakfast options at Best Western Alpenglo Lodge
We were excited to read the weekly menu displayed in the hotel lobby. The breakfast options were listed with several choices to select from each day. On our Wednesday morning stay, we would have our choice of eggs, ham, potatoes and waffles. My husband was excited for the breakfast burrito bar with pork green chili. Additionally, dry cereal and oatmeal were available, as well as apples, coffee, tea and fruit juice. We both made our own waffles and I opted for yogurt.
Oregon-based Travel Writer Nancy D. Brown stayed at Best Western Alpenglo Lodge in Winter Park, Colorado at her own expense. Text and all photography by the author. As always, all opinions are her own.
