Juneau’s only branded hotel, Four Points by Sheraton Juneau delivers everything a visitor could want when visiting the popular cruise port city. Along with quiet rooms, a friendly staff, and a waterfront location, the downtown hotel is an easy walk to many of the Alaskan city’s sought after attractions.
Four Points by Sheraton Juneau offers 106 rooms, spread across seven stories. If you’re arriving by cruise ship, its waterfront location makes transitioning back to terra firma relatively simple. Almost all of the cruise docks are within walking distance and connected by a wide boardwalk. There are multiple berths to accommodate a number of large cruise ships, so the length of the walk simply depends on where your ship docks.
Fresh off of a weeklong sailing with Alaskan Dream Cruises, it was just after 9 a.m. when I arrived at the hotel’s front desk hoping to store my luggage until my room was ready. Obviously accustomed to the influx of cruise passengers, the front desk didn’t blink an eye at my early arrival, and in a matter of minutes had me on my way to a King Mountain view room on the seventh floor of the hotel.
The room was spacious — much larger than I anticipated — and offered a nice view of both residential Juneau and a slice of the bustling shopping area. Along with a king bed, and a spacious desk to spread out all of my travel gear, there was a window-side comfy chair, small refrigerator, and basic coffee maker.
The bathroom offered a single sink vanity, with plenty of room for two people to spread out, and a shower/bathtub combination. Toiletries were provided in eco-friendly, large refillable bottles.
Even though the room was located close to the elevator, I was impressed with how little noise filtered into the space.
Along with a 24-hour fitness center, the hotel is home to McGivney’s Sports Bar and Grill. Along with cocktails and a large selection of beer on tap, the casual eatery offers hearty pub food the likes of burgers, nachos, chicken wings, and macaroni and cheese with bacon and chipotle peppers.
The biggest perk of a stay here is the property’s central location. Four Points by Sheraton Juneau is adjacent to the Centennial Hall Convention Center and a short walk to shopping, eating, and a plethora of tourist hot spots including Wings Airways glacier flightseeing tours and the Goldbelt Tram. Expect a 20-or-so-minute-drive to reach Mendenhall Glacier.
It’s less than a 9-mile drive to reach the Juneau International Airport from the Four Points by Sheraton Juneau. Rideshare services can be few and far between; front desk staff are happy to book transportation to the airport for hotel guests.
Rates for a King Mountain view room average $399 a night during the summer season. Wi-Fi and parking are included. Pets are not allowed. You can compare rates at Booking.com or Expedia and make your reservation there if you find a better deal.
