Better known as Dia de Los Locos, Day of the Crazies is an annual parade in San Miguel de Allende that is a real spectacle. I managed to shove my way to a good vantage point, but Donna did a better job of getting front and center and captured these great photos.
The daughter really was the big winner though. The parade participants throw out candy to the chants of “Dulces, dulces!” I caught a few pieces, but she had an upturned paper parousel we got her for 20 pesos and it kept the sun away before, then served as a candy catcher after. Now she’s got enough candy to last a month.
I’ve taken my shots at San Miguel de Allende as much as anyone, but on Day of the Crazies it really felt like Mexico in all its fiesta-loving glory.
Dia de Los Locos takes place in mid-June each year, mainly because there’s nothing else to celebrate on teh calendar then, so it was an excuse to throw a party. It’s hard to find reliable information on when it’s actually taking place, but check Atencion San Miguel.
