Looking for a boutique hotel on the central Oregon coast? Inn at Nye Beach in Newport, Oregon is a year-round coastal playground. With the only infinity spa pool in the Pacific Northwest looking out to the ocean, this is the spot to soak in the views. Here’s the inside scoop on my two-night stay at Inn at Nye Beach for fun in Newport, Oregon.
Inn at Nye Beach Highlights
With eco-friendly design and adhering to sustainable practices, the conscientious traveler will feel right at home here on the central Oregon coast. While the Newport, Oregon hotel has been around many years, it became Inn at Nye Beach in 2012. Oregon-based VIP Hospitality Group renovated the property, repurposing wood and other materials from the former Viking Cottages that once stood here. The cozy Inn has a coastal beach vibe, but upscale decor and amenities.
The 38-room Newport hotel feels welcoming from the moment you enter the front door. Of course, I spied the homemade chocolate chip cookies as soon as I walked in the lobby. My husband pointed out the local wines on display. We had splurged on the Romance Package as we were expecting a stormy few days on the Oregon coast. We took the elevator to our room on the third floor of the 3-story hotel. Rooms offer city views or ocean view rooms.
Guest rooms and amenities
While you may not be aware of the division, the Inn organically divides rooms by couples and families. We were staying at this family-friendly hotel as a couple and appreciated that we never heard the sound of little feet pitter pattering up and down the hallway. Our king deluxe suite, with its ocean front view, did not disappoint. Our balcony, designed for two, delivered the surf-pounding sounds of the ocean, while shutting out the wave action with a smooth slide of the glass door.
If you prefer to take in the ocean views from a bath tub, room 328 is ideal. The romance package had our tub, and king bed, adorned with red rose petals. If you don’t opt for the romance package, you’ll still enjoy killer ocean views from your balcony, bed or bath tub, and the bath salts are complimentary.
For guests looking to completely pamper themselves, book a 60 or 90 minute Swedish or deep tissue massage. I recommend booking spa services in advance of your stay to get the time you prefer.
Family-friendly Newport hotel
The family-friendly boutique hotel has a DVD lending library in the lobby. Private beach access is available through a locked gate – code given at check-in. Be mindful that there are quite a few steps down to the beach. Purchase the Beach Bonfire package with everything you need for gourmet s’mores on the sand.
If you prefer to view the ocean from a heated body of water, the infinity spa is ideal. Take the kids for a dip in the daylight hours. In the late evening the infinity pool turns into a soaking experience for adults-only.
Complimentary breakfast at Inn at Nye Beach
Breakfast is delivered to your door and included with the price of your hotel room. Enjoy breakfast on the balcony or in front of the gas fireplace. The night prior you select your breakfast choice from several options, including the chef’s weekly special.
In the afternoon, look for fresh baked cookies in the lobby. Beer, wine, hard cider and soft drinks are available for purchase in the lobby. Additionally, shirts, sweatshirts, candles, logo wine and beer glasses are offered for sale. Portland Roasting Company coffee and Steven Smith Teamaker loose leaf are available in room and in the lobby.
Rates for a king deluxe ocean view room start at $218 plus tax. Inn rates start at $199 to $599 and include complimentary covered parking and free WiFi. Pets are accepted, for an additional fee, with rooms available on the ground floor. You can look for a better rate at Expedia, Booking.com, or your favorite hotel booking site.
