Looking for a luxurious stay in Medford, Oregon? Look no further than Lady Geneva Bed and Breakfast in Southern Oregon.
Quite honestly, I never thought of Medford, Oregon as offering a plethora of dining or upscale lodging options. When I think about Southern Oregon hotels, my mind wanders to rustic Rogue River lodges and cabins. Fortunately, Medford Tourism has trained their eye on the discerning traveler and worked to move offerings up a click.
With festivals such as the Oregon Cheese Festival, Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Heart of the Rogue, foodies have discovered Medford. We were delighted with our recent stay at Lady Geneva Bed and Breakfast. We think you’ll like it, too.
This was our second visit to Southern Oregon in a two month span. It’s an easy drive from Eugene, Oregon, but those traveling along the I-5 corridor will find it a welcome rest stop, as well. The 5 bedroom historic bed and breakfast holds a lot of history within her walls. I refer to Lady Geneva as a woman due to her strong connection with both her original owner, Florence Olds Buhrman, and the fact that each unique room is named after a woman.
Upon arrival, our hosts, Gloria and Cecil, greeted us with a glass of local Rogue Valley wine and gave us a tour of the 1914 craftsman home. On a small chalkboard was a preview of what we could expect for breakfast in the morning. The innkeeper/owner Gloria, had e-mailed us previously to ask about any dietary restrictions. We were looking forward to the gourmet breakfast, and she kindly recommended several restaurants for our dinner that evening.
While this is a bed and breakfast review, I have to share our Decant restaurant discovery. Both my husband and I were dazzled with Decant’s restaurant menu. Located a quick walk from Lady Geneva Bed and Breakfast, this is a must-try restaurant in Southern Oregon.
We stayed in the Lady Florence room, on the second floor of the 2-story property. This was a celebration weekend for us, so we requested the Romance Package.
For an additional fee, chocolate lovers will be dazzled with a multitude of options, including chocolate dipped strawberries, fresh fruit for dipping in melted chocolate and a array of crunchy goodies. Prosecco or wine compliment the package. On our visit, locally-produced Emz Blendz products were also included, as well as the Lady Geneva wooden board for you to take home.
All rooms include ensuite bathroom. Formerly serving as a sleeping porch in the historic home, our bathroom featured a tub shower combination and plenty of natural light from a bank of windows. We could have lounged around in our room, in robes supplied by the innkeepers, but we were anxious to explore downtown Medford and beyond.
Off of the main entrance is Lady Alice room, a small studio, and the only room in the B&B located on the first floor. If mobility issues are of consideration, note that this boutique bed and breakfast does not offer an elevator.
We did not stay in Lady Ann room, the corner suite with private balcony and two queen beds. This is the room I’d reserve if I were coming to Medford for a girlfriend getaway.
Room rates start at $170 depending on the season and events taking place in Medford, Oregon. The hotel offers AAA and AARP discounts and 15% discounts to retired and active Military with proof of membership. You can also check Expedia or Hotels.com for rates as well.
Gourmet dining at Lady Geneva B&B
My favorite thing about a luxury bed and breakfast stay is the multi-course breakfast. I basically eat yogurt with fruit every day. Boring, but quick and easy. Both my husband and I enjoy hearing what’s being served for breakfast the next morning. We are foodies and Lady Geneva Bed and Breakfast has this meal dialed down.
Guest may expect a two-course meal, with eggs and meat included, if you like. Vegan options are also available. An assortment of juices were offered, in addition to coffee and a wide selection of fine teas. If you prefer yogurt with fresh fruit and granola, that’s an option, too.
The boutique bed and breakfast is not pet-friendly. As is typical in a 100+ year old historic property, there is no elevator on premises.
