Don’t let that Convention Center tag deter your stay. The Hyatt Regency Denver at the Colorado Convention Center nails its Mile High City location with convenient access to all things downtown Denver, cozy accommodations, and tasty on-site dining options.
With its impressive Rocky Mountains in the horizon, Denver continues to make the lists from Top Tech towns to best foodie cities to best places to live welcoming record-breaking visitors each year. In part, (I feel) this is due to its equally impressive downtown hotel options including one of its longstanding staples, Hyatt Regency Denver At Colorado Convention Center.
As a Denver metro local, I’m lucky to take advantage of quick getaways to downtown, including my recent stay at this Hyatt convention hotel. But first, let’s address that elephant in the room — convention hotel? Why yes! While there are times that I may avoid a convention hotel, booking one on a weekend usually has the advantage of better rates and decreased occupancy.
Arrival at Hyatt Regency Denver at the Colorado Convention Center
My hubby and I arrived for early check-in (requested online) feeling good about arriving in downtown Denver on a Saturday at around 2:30. Unfortunately, our arrival coincided with the departure of the Cleveland Browns football entourage heading to the Broncos Stadium for the Saturday night game. I blame my husband as he’s the sports fan, but we were stuck on the outside looking in while trying to use valet to park our car. Multiple buses lined up just outside the lobby entrance, and traffic was blocked.
While husband waited for valet, I attempted to enter the hotel to check-in and was thwarted by security as the football team was actually exiting at that time. I had to walk around to side entrance to check-in, so the whole process took way longer than usual. Note to self and Hotel-Scoop readers: check the Denver calendar prior to arrival.
But on a fun note, we did get to see many of the Browns players and fans, so it did add an exciting component to our stay.

As a convention center hotel, guests have the advantage of a lot of room inventory — in this case, 1,100 newly refreshed guestrooms. Although during my stay there was a lot of holiday traffic and football fans, we were given one of the 59 suites available on the 31st concierge floor, with an elevator devoted to the top floors of the hotel.
We stayed in the 1,140 square feet of the Cottonwood Suite, jam-packed with all the amenities a couple could want. We entered our room to enjoy a bathroom off the entrance, living area, dining room/table, kitchenette with mini-fridge, separate bedroom with that ah-mazing Hyatt Grand Bed (which my hubby still talks about!). Continue on to a two-sink massive bathroom with huge tub, shower and separate toilet area — oh and a walk-in closet. Our only regret is that we didn’t get there early enough to really enjoy chilling in our room.
Our room included access to the Regency Club, with complimentary continental breakfast, mid-afternoon and evening snacks and drinks. We only experienced the breakfast, but it was more than enough serving scrambled eggs, bagels, breads, pastries, fruit, cereal, coffee, tea, and sodas. (I did spy a refrigerator stocked with alcoholic beverages too.) Our only disappointment was that upon our arrival at about 9 am on a weekend, there was no more bagels & Lox
Dining at the Hyatt Regency Denver Colorado Convention Center
This downtown Denver hotel recently opened a new restaurant, Former Saint Craft Kitchen and Taps. We were fortunate enough to try it out twice – once for drinks late afternoon and then again for dinner. The Colorado-inspired menu features choices for every palate. I immediately eyed the roasted beets and my hubby and I both ordered the prime Porterhouse. Nothing disappointed including the service.
I’ve always been a fan of stopping at the 27th Floor Peaks Lounge anytime I visit downtown Denver. This dining option at the Hyatt Regency Denver Colorado Convention Center offers one of the best views of the cities, along with an array of beer, wine, and spirits, as well as an appetizer menu. During our recent visit, Peaks Lounge was sold out for a private party, so we missed this visit — next time.
Other dining options include Strata Bar (lobby bar), Perks Coffee & More, and room service, as well as walking distance to literally dozens of downtown Denver restaurants.
