Presenting My Husband with Adidas Terrex Hiking Shoes

If you haven’t guessed it yet, I’m passionate about venturing into the great outdoors and immersing myself in nature. As you may have seen in my previous blog posts, I have an unwavering admiration for the adidas Terrex line of women’s walking boots and hiking shoes. Never before have I experienced a pair of walking shoes that fit as perfectly as these do from the very first moment I put them on, and I’ve never had to deal with blisters. They truly are a dream come true.

This is why I was eager for my husband to find a quality pair of walking shoes as well. Let me explain…

Why My Husband Needs New Walking Shoes

My husband has been relying on the same old, cheap walking shoes for as long as I can remember. I’ve made him store them in our boot room because, honestly, they have an awful smell. They lack any support, the insole has become misaligned, and he prefers to slip them on and off like slippers instead of tying them properly. While they might be as comfy as slippers, they’re certainly not doing his feet any favors – nor are they pleasant for my sense of smell!

If it were up to him, I’m convinced he would keep them until they were full of holes and barely hanging on to his feet. However, something happened during one of our dog walks that prompted him to reevaluate his footwear choices.

I noticed he kept pausing to adjust his shoes. I’ll admit, it was quite annoying as I wanted to pick up the pace. When I asked him what was going on, he revealed that he was getting stones inside his shoes. I couldn’t help but smugly mention that I didn’t have that issue thanks to my decent walking shoes that offered support and could be properly tied. At that moment, it was an epiphany for him. It was such a simple irritation, but the discomfort of those pesky stones made him realize he needed new walking shoes. That’s when I recommended adidas Terrex to him.

Luckily for him, as an adidas blogger, I had access to a wide selection of options. Having had great experiences with Terrex myself (I love them so much I own two pairs), I knew this was the right choice for him. I showed him several options, and he ultimately chose this one…

Adidas Terrex Free Hiker 2 Hiking Shoe

One standout feature for my husband while reviewing the selection of men’s walking shoes was the integrated sock-like cuff of the adidas Terrex Free Hiker 2. This design gives the shoe a high-top appearance, yet the stretchy cuff fits snugly around the ankle, reducing the risk of rubbing and providing better support. It essentially acts as a gaiter, keeping small stones and debris from entering the shoe. BINGO!

The Terrex shoes come equipped with Continental™ rubber grip—the same material used in car tires—ensuring outstanding traction. If it keeps cars safe on all road conditions, it’s certainly going to support him while walking. This is particularly important for my husband, who often takes our dog for walks in the forest behind our garden, where the terrain is muddy, slippery, and filled with hidden tree roots that require a good grip.

So, what makes these shoes so comfortable? In addition to the sock-like cuff, the shoes feature BOOST midsole cushioning, an adidas innovation made from compressed pellets molded for the shoe’s fit. This technology provides 20% more energy return with each step, which essentially means it feels like walking on soft, bouncy cushions. For my husband, this means he gets the comfort level of slippers while ensuring his feet are well supported.

He opted for classic black (a versatile choice that requires less cleaning!), which adidas cleverly names Core Black/Core Black/Grey Six. There are also two other color options available in the adidas Terrex Free Hiker 2: Pulse Olive/Linen Green/Impact Orange and Bliss Lilac/Beam Orange/Pulse Magenta.

What Does My Husband Think Of His New Shoes?

Well, naturally, he loves them! If only he had listened to me sooner! Like me, he was amazed by how immediately comfortable they felt. In the past, when we purchased walking shoes or trail running shoes, we usually had to break them in. But with adidas Terrex, that wasn’t the case – they were comfortable right from the start.

But rather than just my perspective, here’s what he had to say:

“For ages, I’ve been annoyed by getting debris caught in my shoes while walking in the woods, always having to stop to remove them. So the snug sock-style lip was very appealing! I chose a black pair and sized up by a half based on advice from the adidas website. They were a bit tricky to put on at first, which is expected for this style, but the fit was excellent, and they felt incredibly comfortable right away. During a 5-mile walk with many woodland paths, not a single twig or piece of grit got near my feet, and the comfort level for a brand new pair of shoes was unlike anything I’ve experienced before. I’m really happy with them, and they will be my go-to footwear for many walks.”

In conclusion, we’ve learned the importance of having a quality pair of walking shoes that are comfortable and supportive, but most importantly, it’s a good idea to heed your wife’s suggestions!
