Conveniently located less than a mile from I-5, SureStay Plus Best Western Redding in California is perfect for the budget-minded traveler. Truthfully, I was not familiar with the SureStay hotel brand until I found this pet-friendly hotel on the Best Western website.
My husband and I have traveled this part of the I-5 Shasta Cascade corridor many times. We loved staying at the LEED certified Sheraton Redding Hotel during a fly-fishing trip on the Sacramento River. I have also stayed at the Red Lion Hotel Redding when I was here for the Redding Rodeo. This particular trip we were barreling through before hitting the Siskiyou pass – hoping for favorable winter weather driving conditions.
Fortunately, the weather cooperated and the SuresStay Plus Best Western proved a good stop for us in Redding, California. As I am known to do, I scoured the Best Western website for a dog-friendly hotel in the Shasta Cascade region the day before our arrival. We landed at this 2-star hotel and secured a good rate. Once again, we were looking for a budget hotel that was clean, safe and offered easy freeway access. This 3-story BW hotel ticked those boxes and offered a good steak restaurant within walking distance of the hotel, as well.
The 80-room hotel will appeal to parents and children, as it offers an indoor swimming pool and is close to water parks, Sundial Bridge and Burney Falls.
Our room, #112, was pet-friendly and offered 2 queen beds on the first floor. Unfortunately, our room was next to the elevator, but it was relatively quiet in the evening. We could look out to our car from our hotel room and liked that we could see it from our window.
The room had a single sink outside the bathroom, in addition to a mini fridge and microwave oven. There was a small television mounted above the kitchen unit, as well as a table, but no chair. The bathroom offered a tub/shower combination with miniature bottles of Salon Selectives bath amenities and white cotton bath towels.
SureStay Best Western Breakfast
The complimentary breakfast was available in the main hotel, next to the reception area, from 6:00 – 9:00 a.m. Not a fancy breakfast, but it included scrambled eggs, sausage, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cold cereal, fresh fruit, juice and Costco muffins. I opted for yogurt and fruit, but I confess that my husband and I shared a huge chocolate muffin. Breakfast of road warriors, for sure.
Our dog-friendly room rented for $116 plus tax on our stay. There is an additional fee for pets. Rates at SureStay Plus Best Western Redding start at $109 plus tax and max out at $359 in the summer. While each Best Western hotel is independently owned and operated, sometimes BW offers special deals on the hotel website. You can also compare rates and book through Hotels.com or your favorite hotel booking site.
As a Best Western Rewards member I’m assured a low-rate guarantee, earn BW points that never expire and I’m entitled to complimentary bottled water upon check-in. Book your SureStay Plus hotel directly on the Best Western website or compare rates at Hotels.com, Booking.com, or other online hotel booking sites.
I reserved my Best Western hotel room as a Best Western gold rewards member. This was not a hosted stay. As always, all opinions expressed are my own. All photo credits: Oregon-based travel writer Nancy D. Brown
