California’s Sonoma Valley covers seven different appellations and stretches from downtown Sonoma to the town of Cloverdale more than 30 miles north. There’s a whole lot of ground to cover, and even more hotels to choose from. For those looking for a romantic getaway close to wineries and with easy access to dining and shopping, here are seven excellent options at a variety of price points.

SingleThread

Room at SingleThread Inn

Sharing space with the three-Michelin-starred restaurant of the same name, the five-room SingleThread Inn is an extension of the same concept, complete with the same unwavering hospitality, carefully curated experience, and meticulous attention to detail that has made the restaurant one of the best in the country—and the world. Rooms are spacious, at 450-500 square feet, and feature high ceilings, exposed brick, hardwood floors, and—in the bathrooms—heated floors, large tubs, and Japanese Toto toilets with heated seats. There’s a minibar stocked with local and international goodies, including wine, beer, and cannabis-infused chocolates, and every stay includes a lavish breakfast, served in your room if you like, created by the restaurant team.

Room rates start at $850.

The Lodge at Sonoma Renaissance Resort & Spa

Room at the Lodge at Sonoma

The Lodge at Sonoma Renaissance Resort & Spa is located just off the main square in downtown Sonoma. With 178 rooms and four suites, plus a restaurant, bar, cafe, pool, spa, fitness center, and meeting space, the property is quite large, yet it feels intimate thanks to a layout that spreads the amenities around beautifully landscaped grounds. The hotel also offers several perks, like wine tastings from local vintners, a comprehensive spirits program that focuses on local distillers, and a free shuttle to the options at the nearby square.  Rooms feature fireplaces, patios or balconies, a small sitting area, a complimentary bottle of wine, and marble bathrooms with jacuzzi tubs.

Room rates start at just over $200 per night.

Kenwood Inn & Spa

Room at Kenwood Inn, Sonoma

Set on 2.5 acres in Kenwood off Highway 12, the Tuscan-inspired Kenwood Inn & Spa offers 29 luxurious rooms and suites spread around three courtyards surrounded by lush gardens. Rooms have hardwood floors, plush beds, fireplaces, and separate entrances for increased privacy. There’s a complimentary wine and cheese tasting every evening, lavish breakfast buffet including mimosas, and an onsite pool, hot tub, and spa.

Room rates start at $379.

Hotel Les Mars

Room at Hotel Les Mars

Hotel Les Mars, located in the heart of downtown Healdsburg on the north end of the Sonoma Valley, offers the ultimate luxury retreat close to the action (and plenty of tasting rooms, including some downtown options you can reach on foot). The hotel’s 16 rooms are decorated with king-size four-poster beds, elegant chaise lounges, and European antiques. Breakfast is served in your room each morning and wines and artisanal cheese are served in the library each evening. There’s a small fitness room and an outdoor pool. Every need is attended to, every whim catered to with attention to detail, yet the service never feels forced or pretentious.

Room rates start at around $600 per night.

Timber Cove Resort

Timber Cove Resort

Perched on the edge of the Pacific, the Timber Cove Resort has been a Sonoma Coast icon for more than 50 years. The A-frame lobby recalls a cozy mountain lodge, but the views are all about the ocean. The vibe is hip, with mid-century modern furniture, Smeg refrigerators, in-room record players and a full vinyl library. While the hotel lends itself to convivial socializing with the onsite bar and restaurant, and oceanfront fire pit,  it’s also great for couples, thanks to plenty of cozy nooks to explore, and spectacular sunset views from most of its 46 rooms.

Room rates start at $249.

Farmhouse Inn

Farmhouse Inn

Set in the small town of Forestville in Sonoma’s Russian River Valley, the AAA Four Diamond Farmhouse Inn and Spa offers 25 rooms, a spa, pool, fitness center, and Michelin-starred restaurant in the heart of wine country.  The six-acre property is the kind of place you never want to leave—mostly thanks to the inviting farmhouse-chic rooms, which feature four-poster beds with thick wool blankets, dual-sided fireplaces, and large soaking tubs—big enough for two—in the bathroom. Perks abound as well, like homemade cookies and milk at turn down, s’mores fixings by the fire each evening, and a selection of seasonal scrubs, salts, and soaps.

Room rates start at around $500.

Vintners Inn

The grounds of the Vintners Inn

Can’t choose between the north and south ends of Sonoma Valley? The Vintners Inn is located in the middle of the valley, in Santa Rosa. Its position along the highway gives it easy access to all corners of wine country, but since it’s set on several acres of vineyards it still feels idyllic (and quiet, with no noise from the road reaching the property). 44 rooms are set in two-story buildings on 92 acres, and there’s an onsite restaurant, John Ash & Co., as well as a bar, small fitness center, spa, bocce court, running trail through the vineyards and jacuzzi. The French Country-style rooms come with iPod docks, King featherbeds, patios or balconies,  free wifi, sofa beds, fireplaces stocked with wood, and marble bathrooms with jacuzzi tubs.

Room rates start at $200.

You can book any of these hotels through various booking sites such as Hotels.com, Priceline, or Travlocity.
