The Thompson Seattle is the go to downtown hotel whether you are sightseeing or working during your time in Washington State. Shoppers and foodies will be rewarded with plenty of options nearby. Business types will be able to combine business with pleasure at this hotel.
The Hyatt is a 4-star property with all the bells and whistles expected from this caliber of a downtown Seattle hotel. Thompson Seattle hotel near Pike Place made me feel right at home on a business trip, yet I had time to play tourist, too.
The 150-room luxury hotel was within walking distance of many attractions, including the Seattle Great Wheel with its colorful light display. I mention this because my king room, with a water view, had front row seats to the Seattle Ferris Wheel at Pier 57. Covered in over 500,000 LED lights, I enjoyed my own private light show, without leaving the comfort of my hotel room.
The hotel lobby at Thompson Seattle is to the left of reception. Its tasteful design and bold art made me take note of my surroundings. I noticed business associates, as well as multi-generational guests gathered in common areas.
Past the lobby is a walkway from hotel reception to the restaurant. Conversation Kitchen & Bar utilizes locally-sourced foods from the Pacific Northwest. The bar offers handcrafted cocktails, local craft beers and Washington wines, as well as non-alcoholic options. Additionally, there is a rooftop bar called Nest, that offers libations and light snacks.
Hipsters tended to migrate to the 12th floor for the Puget Sounds views from Nest.
Guests rooms at Thompson Seattle were about floor-to-ceiling glass views – at least in my king water view room. Hardwood floors and bathrooms with rainfall showers reminded me more of a private residence than a non-descript hotel.
As Thompson Seattle has private residences, as well as guest rooms and suites, they seem to know their target market intimately.
I especially enjoyed being greeted with a glass of bubbly and fresh baked cookies upon check in completion. I could get used to this kind of customer service.
I’m not a fan of the in-room honor bar, as it leaves no room for me to stash my yogurt and such. If you enjoy expense account travel, you’ll feel right at home here.
My king bed featured luxury linens and I liked the plush robe in the closet. I never touched the 42″ flat-screen tv, the waterfront view kept me entertained.
The walk-in glass shower appeared to be designed for tall people. It worked fine for my short frame, but people of large stature will be very happy with this bathroom.
Rooms tend to offer king beds or two queen beds. Suites are available, as well as water and city view rooms.
While there is a resort fee charge, if you are traveling with a pet, there is no additional fee.
Rates start at $279 per night with suites starting at $679, depending on availability and room type. You can also go to Booking.com or Travelocity to compare rates and see if you can find a better deal. Valet parking is available for $61 per night.
For something completely different, ask about the Tattoo Parlor pop-up in Thompson Seattle’s hotel lobby. You just might come home with a permanent souvenir of your trip to the Emerald city.
