Set in the center of downtown Yountville in California’s Napa Valley, the Napa Valley Lodge is a Tuscan-style luxury hotel close to the best of wine country.
The hotel sits on a corner in the north of end of the small town, placing it within walking distance of more than a dozen wine tasting rooms and nearly 20 restaurants including the famed French Laundry and local favorites like Ad Hoc and Redd Wood. The town offers so much in close proximity to the hotel that you could, as I did, park your car at the hotel upon arrival and not return to it until check-out. Of course, even with all the attractions of Yountville, there’s plenty of reason to not even leave the hotel.
Upon arrival, I was excited to learn that each of the hotel’s 55 rooms has a Plum wine machine, which dispenses taster size or full glasses of two different wines for a small fee. Even better: most rooms also have fireplaces and vaulted ceilings and every room has a private patio or balcony—many with views of the vines growing right behind the hotel.
Five of the hotel’s rooms are luxury suites. I was in a King Junior Suite 600 square feet of space, a wood-burning fireplace, king bed, small desk, and a sitting area with a loveseat. The room was decked out in neutral tones of white, grey, and taupe, with a modern farmhouse feel, plenty of natural light, and high ceilings that made the room feel even more spacious than it was.
I especially loved the large spa bathroom with a two-person soaking tub, dual sink, and walk-in glass shower.
Each room has free wifi, a flat-screen TV, mini bar, Nespresso machine, complimentary bottled water, spa robes and slippers, and all the standards like a hair dryer, alarm clock, and iron. Aside from the aforementioned Plum machine with wine, there were also bottled mai tai and negroni cocktails available in the room ($32 each from Napa Valley distillery), a unique offering and a nice change from more wine.
While all guests have access to the hotel’s complimentary Champagne breakfast buffet, guests in the suites can opt to have the breakfast delivered to their room at no extra cost.
The onsite grounds are spacious and well-manicured, with outdoor fire pits, bocce courts, a pool, and plenty of sun loungers, cabanas, umbrellas, and chairs for relaxing outside. I also spotted a set up for a game of cornhole.
There’s an onsite spa that offers facials, massages, and body treatments, and a fitness center with a Peloton bike and other equipment. Complimentary afternoon tea and cookies are served in the lobby and there’s a complimentary wine hour on Thursday and Friday evenings. The hotel also has one of my favorite Napa perks: complimentary bikes available for rolling around town on two wheels.
With luxe rooms, plenty of onsite amenities, and a prime location in the center of Yountville, there’s no better spot for a near-perfect experience in wine country.
If you go: Check-in time is 4pm and check-out is noon. Prices start at $235 per night. Make your reservation at the hotel website or compare rates and book through Expedia.
