Downtown Napa is a popular place to stay when visiting Northern California wine country. A hotel located next to the Napa River is even better for those of us who prefer to relax on a balcony after a day of sightseeing. River Terrace Inn completed a $5 million expansion in 2017, updating the lobby, Alba Restaurant and adding six riverfront guest rooms.
In addition to updating Alba Restaurant, the outdoor terrace at Alba was created to give guests the opportunity to enjoy drinks or meals on the patio by the Napa River, without leaving the property. I loved the outdoor fire pits and the idea of live music on the patio is happy hour indeed!
The 114 room boutique hotel includes riverfront rooms, some with a private balcony. My room was a river view deluxe with jetted bathtub. Located on the upper floor, I had a view of the Napa River and a comfortable king size bed. My room also featured a pull-out sofa queen; convenient when traveling with the kids. While there is plenty to see and do in downtown Napa, there is no longer a swimming pool on property. (They filled it in to make more room for outdoor meeting space.) All hotel rooms include WiFi, pillow-top mattresses and big terry cloth bath towels.
The hotel is not pet-friendly, although service dogs are accepted.
I didn’t dine at Alba restaurant except for one breakfast. Both the service and the breakfast were good, and as I mentioned above, I’ll always opt to eat outside when given the choice. If you like house made granola with yogurt and fresh fruit, it’s a winner. Better yet, order breakfast to-go and take a walk along the Napa River trail.
Next time I circle back to downtown Napa I’ll have to check out the live music that’s offered seasonally on the weekends. The hotel also offers “Wine Pour Wednesdays” and daily happy hour. The hotel is an ideal setting for business meetings and has a ballroom, as well. Prices start at $199 mid-week, off season, and escalate depending on time of year. There are package deals available on the website, including Napa Wine Train offers (wine train is within walking distance of the hotel), Noble House adventure packages and book direct for “Noble Perks” such as early check in, or a bottle of wine upon arrival. Book your stay at River Terrace Inn through Hotels.com.
